Have you ever noticed that the kinds of struggles people face when they don’t set and protect healthy boundaries look a lot like a list of the symptoms of unmanaged ADHD?
How are you doing with setting and protecting boundaries in your professional and personal relationships? How does this interact with your ADHD?
We’re talking all about boundaries & ADHD today. Plus: Dana’s got a fascinating Squirrel of the Week!
Listen to this episode and then check out Part 2 in Episode 159 where Dana and David Set Boundaries!
Hi Dana and David, Re: Podcast #158 (and all of them)
I was diagnosed many years ago with ADD and a slew of learning disorders; still struggling with aspects of it daily. I am familiar with Dana’s work and books, but just recently found your KSA podcast. WOW. Have to say I am finding it helpful and doing my best to use the ideas you generously give.
David tossed off a little comment, not even on the subject of Boundaries and it stopped me in my tracks. He mentioned sensory overstimulation in a crowded restaurant. I have never liked noisy restaurant situations and thought I had some social phobia perhaps (?), but now I think maybe most, or all, of my negative reaction is due to the sensory overload of the cacophony of so many voices and noises along with all the movement of everything visually. I don’t mind quiet, or empty restaurants. Very interesting.
As far as problems setting healthy boundaries, I am also a recovering CoDependent Anonymous member (CoDA.org) and recognize the boundary issue as something I used to struggle with a lot and still do sometimes.
Because of all the negative messaging, boundary stomping, and criticism we get as children with ADHD/Learning Disorders, I believe there’s a good chance that the incidence of codependency is even higher among ADHDers than it is among neurotypical people. Just my thoughts on it.
Thank you for these podcasts highlighting these important issues and your wisdom on these subjects. I am finding it helpful.
Thanks and God bless!
Penelope S.
PS: I already get Dana’s emails. Thanks.
